Written for Spanish-speaking children and parents, titles in Barron’s Vive y aprende series are sensitively conceived picture storybooks that take a child’s point of viewespecially in regard to kids who need encouragement in the face of an emotional or a physical difficulty. Following each story are four pages of suggested activities that relate to its theme, followed by a two-page section that offers advice to parents. Vive y aprende titles are also available in English language editions under the series title Live and Learn. Here is the story of a child who has ADHDattention-deficit disorderand is mistakenly perceived as being unruly and incapable of following instructions. Ultimately, this little boy overcomes this problem with help from the family doctor, his parents, and his teacher.

Editorial : From School Library Journal Grade 2-4–The cartoonlike style of the illustrations draws youngsters into the life of a boy who suffers from attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. In school, while learning mathematics, he cannot wait for his turn. While playing kickball, he runs to first base without kicking the ball. And at home, he forgets to make his bed like he is supposed to. The youngsterâÇÖs supportive mother realizes that he needs medical attention and an organization program to keep him on track. As a result, he seems to get a little better every day. His kickball team even wins the game at recess. Despite the oversimplification, this book introduces the disorder. Activities involving games that require focus and concentration are appended. Symptoms that may indicate that a child has ADHD are listed in the âÇ£Guide for Parents,âÇ¥ along with advice on how adults can help children cope with this condition.–Jen

The Book is easy to read and understand and gives you the sense that, today, you learned a fine lesson in growing up in self fullfillment and what it takes. Grovewell, it's a journey of unfathomable proportions.
To his credit, Grove never oversells the story. They certainly have more character than many of the bland, boxy coaches out in the market today in 2008.. There is no attempt to replace the medical team but rather to complement them. He often shows me a picture from the book and oohs and aahs over it.. Other titles assigned to the same book are: 'Personal Notes', 'Meditations', 'The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius' et al. He is very thorough, and I can tell he writes from a lot of years of experience. Radical move for a principal in today's public school system, eh?

Bravo for Cindi Hemm, for her willingness to fight for her students, fight the generations of poverty that surround her school, and fight for what's right simply because it's the right thing to do.
